JAZZ DANCE: 10-year-olds and older
The essential elements of jazz dance, a style developed within the Afro-American culture, include the isolation technique of the various parts of the body, looseness of movement, and a rhythmic and dynamic expression. Apart from African influences, this diverse and energetic dance style has been influenced by contemporary dance, ballet, and musical dances.
In addition to dance technique, the jazz dance classes include body maintenance, dance knowledge, and the practising of a dance performance. The jazz dance classes develop the students’ coordination, reaction speed, and sense of rhythm. In the upper grades, the number of performance practices and performances increases.
